Community based & focused on life-long learning
June 2019 will see a new activity begin with a Community Animation Film Project working in partnership with Aylsham High School (AHS), Aylsham Parish Church, Norwich University of the Arts (NUA) and BBC Voices (based in Norwich). This education project will bring members of the community together in a recording event at Aylsham Parish Church in June. These same recorded voices of local residents, both young and old, will be one of the components used in July by pupils at Aylsham High School, mentored by NUA students from the animation degree course. Participants will produce short animated films to reflect the character, hopes and ambitions of Aylsham residents revealed in these recorded voices. AHS students will work closely with NUA graduates during “Activities Week” with an opportunity to discover their options when choosing a career pathway within creative arts education. APH are looking for local donors to support an expanded programme of activities in 2020 and 2021.
All this activity will culminate in a Gala Evening at Aylsham Picture House in September 2019 that will include a prize giving – MINI OSCARS – as well as the screening of the short animated films created by those taking part in this project. BBC Voices, will also be broadcasting the best short films produced during 2019.
We are some way off from launching formal educational projects – subject to fund-raising over the next year. We want everyone taking part to get the most value they can from their involvement and have fun.
It has become clear from the results of our survey of residents in May/June 2015* that people are keen to have a live performance space in the long term. We will be concentrating on film screenings for the time being but intend to develop a series of themed events – resources permitting – with elements of live performance included.
We have plans to offer expertise and resources to provide a learning space for pupils in which to create film projects within the scope of the national curriculum.
We have long-term plans to engage with local schools and people across Aylsham and the wider community to provide both formal and informal learning opportunities, taking advantage of new technologies and the talents within our community to enrich all our lives.
