This film won five international awards in 2015. In Richard Johnson’s last movie before his death, he plays a cantankerous and debilitated father, whose wife, (Jones) and son (co writer Cerqueira) struggle to improve the quality of his fading life in a ramshackle cottage in Cumbria.

CASABLANCA

The story concerns Rick (Bogart), a world weary cafe owner in wartime Casablanca, who discovers that his ex lover Ilsa (Bergman) who abandoned him years before, has arrived in town with her Resistance Leader husband Victor (Henreid). With the Germans on their tail, Ilsa begs Rick to provide letters of transit that would allow them to escape Casablanca and continue the fight against the Nazis.

BRIDGE OF SPIES

CHICK LIT

A charming comedy about four male friends that will try literally anything to save their favorite local pub from closing down. After brainstorming they decide to write a ‘mummy porn’ novel following the huge success of ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’. Desperate to keep their involvement a secret, the four guys hire an out of work actress to ‘role play’ the part of the author. This leads to her becoming the star in the film adaptation of the book and turns the tables on the guys as she is now the one in control – leaving them with the awful prospect of having to secretly churn out sex novels for the foreseeable future.

RAMS

Winner of more than a dozen international awards, Rams tells the story of two sheep farming brothers in a remote Icelandic valley, who have not spoken to each other for forty years, and have to come together in order to save what is dearest to them – their sheep.

THE BIG SHORT

Nominated for five Academy Awards and winner of one, this film is based on the non fiction book “The Big Short – Inside the Doomsday Machine” by Mike Lewis, and is about the financial crisis of 2007/8 which was triggered by the U.S. housing bubble.

The film is notable for its unconventional means of delivering explanations of the various financial instruments cooked up by banks and institutions, eventually leading to the banking collapse and worldwide crash of 2008. Cameo appearances by famous names from time to time explain, deadpan, the concepts of these instruments, and throughout, Goslings character acts as a narrator.
